Oatmeal and Raw Bilberry Honey
In case you haven’t quite got the message from our blog posts, video blog posts and also from any research you may have carried out on the internet, raw honey is very good for your health. However, you don’t have to stop there to make the most of its benefits when you can improve upon them.
We have produced videos with attached articles extolling the virtues of ginger and honey, garlic and honey, and lemon and honey, but that is really only the tip of the iceberg. So, we have gone one step further and added a secret ingredient to our honey – bilberry powder.
Why bilberry powder? Well, for a start, our hives are surrounded by bilberry bushes and the bees get much of their nectar from bilberry flowers. Then, of course, you have the health benefits of bilberries that only help to augment the power of raw honey.
Bilberries are full of anthocyanins, powerful flavonoid antioxidants that one associates with dark-coloured berries, which are believed to be capable of reducing blood sugar levels, improving vision, and lowering levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood (bad cholesterol) while improving levels of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol. One small study even revealed that bilberries have the potential to reduce the distressing symptoms of ulcerative colitis
Now, it is usual to have honey with something, and one of our favourites is oatmeal, especially as that is also an excellent source of fibre and one which again has many health benefits. Like bilberries, oatmeal is good at helping to protect levels of HDL cholesterol in the bloodstream, so you are doubling the benefit.
Eating raw bilberry honey with oatmeal is also a great way to help if you are on a diet as it provides you with a more natural form of sugar for energy, while the oatmeal, high in carbohydrates, releases energy over a slower period of time, leaving you to feel less hungry, for longer.
Oh, we nearly forgot the most important point. Oatmeal with bilberry raw honey in it is simply delicious!
